Eczema treatment

Eczema or dermatitis is a general term for a wide variety of inflamed skin conditions. You can recognize a mild form of eczema by dry red itchy patches on the skin anywhere on the body; a severe condition may include bleeding, raw and broken skin. Although it feels and looks unpleasant, the eczema is not contagious. Unfortunately, there is so far no exact treatment for this condition.

Most commonly it occurs in infants – e.g. almost 10-20% of infants in the United States suffer from a form of this condition. Most of the infants eventually grow out of it but a small percentage will have to deal with the occasional occurrence of the eczema throughout their lives.

If you are struggling with this problem every now and then, we can provide tips to prevent it. As mostly the eczema is evoked by irritants that your skin isn't exactly friends with, these are the main things you should know:

-      first of all you need to keep your skin moist – moisturize it frequently to avoid it becoming dry enough for the eczema to occur;

-      don't use certain soaps, detergents and other irritants you have in your household;

-      avoid sudden changes in temperature;

-      and of course, examine your diet, do not eat anything that might cause an inflammation and trigger the outbreak of the eczema;

-      also, try to avoid contact with environmental factors like mould, animal dander etc that may be a threat to your beautiful clear skin by causing an outbreak.

One of the most effective treatments for this condition is the application of special creams and ointments. They have the effect of reducing inflammations.

* If you suspect you have a type of eczema for the first time, we recommend you see your doctor for a correct diagnosis.
