FMS or the Fibromyalgia Syndrome is a widespread musculoskeletal pain or stiffness, fatigue and sleeping disorder. The pain occurs mostly in the muscles, ligaments and tendons anywhere in the body and feels like the muscles are overworked or sprained. To help you understand the pain, you should remember, what it feels like when you are coming down with flu - you ache all over and feel extremely tired. This is what several patients have described FMS to feel like.
FMS occurs more among women than it does among men, but all in all, people of all ages can be affected.
The cause of FMS remains unclear, but is probably usually activated by an emotional or a physical trauma, an infection or another disorder, which are not the actual causes but may help to trigger its development.
Studies have shown, that FMS is chronic, but the symptoms may wax and wane every now and then depending on the severity of the condition.
Since the symptoms and their severity varies among the patients, there are a number of ways to help treat it – medical treatment or physical treatment, such as massage, special exercise programs, acupuncture etc.
* If you suspect you have FMS for the first time, we strongly recommend you see your doctor for a correct diagnosis.
